Janakabi keshari Dharma Raj Thapa died today at the age of 91. Thapa was born at Batulechaur pokhara in 1981. Prime Minister Shushil Koirala, Home Minister Bamdev Gautam, Babu Ram Bhattarai, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, other politicians, artists and well wishers were present there to give condolence to late Janakabi keshari Dharma Raj Thapa. Dharma Raj Thapa’s Hariyo danda mathi halo jotne sathi, Hamro Tenjing Sherpa himal chadhyo, Aaja madal bajeko kina gaubesi duniya byujhauna are his hit songs. Thapa has recorded more than 100 songs. He was honored by King Mahendra in 2013 B.S. with the title Janakabi keshari. He was famous for typical Nepali folk songs. He travelled to many places to protect and promote Nepalese folk music, song and culture. Thapa introduced our national music instrument ‘SARANGI’ to the world. He was honored by numerous awards like ‘Madan puraskar,Jagadamba shree, Image lifetime award.
