RATO MACHHINDRANATH JATRA CELEBRATED

Rato Machhindranath Bhoto Jatra is celebrated cheerfully after two years. This festival is also known as JAWHALA/PWAKALAN JATRA in Newari community. JWAHALA means spreading rice because Newars spread on night of this festival and PWAKALAN means Nepali handmade vest (Bhoto). Newar communities are celebrating this festival from centuries. They worship god of rain Machhindranath to save living beings from scarcity and drought. This festival ends at the fourth day after chariot of Machhindranath reaches Jawlakhel from Thatitole, Lagankhel. Machhindranath’ statue was taken to Bumgmati after the Bhoto was demonstrated from four different directions.
